Pete Hegseth Post of Cartoon Meme on Targeting Narco-Terrorists Outrages Liberals

Man in a pinstripe suit stands beside the American flag, smiling against a blue background during an official event.

Secretary of War Pete Hegseth posted a cartoon meme Sunday about the Trump administration’s military campaign targeting South American drug boats that drew outrage from liberals upset about the attacks. The post has gone viral with over five million views as of late Sunday night.

U.S. military drone footage shows multiple angles of a suspected drug boat strike, highlighting the aftermath of an attack on survivors.

Hegseth posted a cartoon meme of Canadian children’s book character Franklin the Turtle titled “Franklin Targets Narco Terrorists”, that features Franklin on a military helicopter firing on drug boats, with the message, “For your Christmas wish list”:

Biden Defense Department spokeswoman Sabrina Singh, who worked for SecDef Lloyd Austin, posted, “Imagine any other SecDef posting this. And then remember they never would because they were serious people.”

California Democrat Congresswoman Sara Jacobs posted, “I fixed it for you” over a redone Franklin cartoon accusing Hegseth of war crimes.

Massachusetts Democrat Congressman Seth Moulton, “You’re a disgrace.”

Virginia Democrat Congressman Eugene Vindman, “Is this all just a joke to you @SecWar?”

Hegseth was accused this past week by the Washington Post of ordering the killing of survivors of a U.S. attack on a drug boat in the Caribbean.

Hegseth posted a statement Friday calling the report by the Post, “fabricated, inflammatory, and derogatory”:

As usual, the fake news is delivering more fabricated, inflammatory, and derogatory reporting to discredit our incredible warriors fighting to protect the homeland.

As we’ve said from the beginning, and in every statement, these highly effective strikes are specifically intended to be “lethal, kinetic strikes.” The declared intent is to stop lethal drugs, destroy narco-boats, and kill the narco-terrorists who are poisoning the American people. Every trafficker we kill is affiliated with a Designated Terrorist Organization.

The Biden administration preferred the kid gloves approach, allowing millions of people — including dangerous cartels and unvetted Afghans — to flood our communities with drugs and violence. The Trump administration has sealed the border and gone on offense against narco-terrorists. Biden coddled terrorists, we kill them.

Our current operations in the Caribbean are lawful under both U.S. and international law, with all actions in compliance with the law of armed conflict—and approved by the best military and civilian lawyers, up and down the chain of command.

Our warriors in SOUTHCOM put their lives on the line every day to protect the Homeland from narco-terrorists — and I will ALWAYS have their back.

Hegseth followed that statement with a blunt message, “We have only just begun to kill narco-terrorists.”

The Franklin meme was posted Friday by X creator Maverick Alexander:
