Katherine Abughazaleh lost her primary bid in the crowded field to replace Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) in Illinois’ 9th Congressional District.

The Gateway Pundit reported that Abughazaleh participated in anti-ICE protests in the fall, which ultimately led to charges.

Abughazaleh was indicted, along with five others, for conspiring to impede the work of a federal law enforcement officer.

According to the indictment, “The defendants were among a crowd of people who surrounded a government vehicle with the intent to hinder and impede the driver—a federal agent—from proceeding to a United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in Broadview, Ill., on Sept. 26, 2025.”

“The defendants and others allegedly crowded together in the front and side of the government vehicle, stood in its path, banged on the car and windows, and pushed against it to hinder and impede its movement.”

“The conspirators broke one of the vehicle’s side mirrors and the rear windshield wiper and etched a derogatory message into the body of the vehicle, the indictment states.”

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche noted at the time, “No one is above the law, and no one has the right to obstruct it.”

“Federal agents perform dangerous, essential work every single day to enforce our immigration laws and keep our communities safe.”

“When individuals resort to force or intimidation to interfere with that mission, they attack not only the agents themselves but the rule of law they represent. The Department of Justice will never tolerate such conduct and will continue to hold accountable anyone who seeks to impede lawful federal operations.”

Despite claiming ‘free speech’ and that she was being ‘politically targeted,’ when she was confronted with a video of her actual actions that day in an interview with journalist Tara Palmeri, Abughazaleh promptly rage-quit mid-interview.

Abughazaleh shared a partial clip of her actions on X, blaming the ICE officer for her crime.

Daniel Bliss, the Mayor of Evanston, a far-left suburb of Chicago, won the Democrat primary and will face Republican John Elleson, a pastor from Arlington Heights.

Evanston Roundtable reported on Abughazaleh’s concession following the loss.

“I don’t know if you heard, but we didn’t win,” Abughazaleh said, “and that really f**king sucks. We came really close, and it sucks” (and) pinned some of the blame on AIPAC, “dark money smear campaigns [and] institutional power” for tipping the scales out of her favor in the hotly contested primary.
