72-year-old US District Judge Thomas Ludington, a George W. Bush appointee, was arrested after he crashed his Cadillac

The incident happened last October but the police bodycam was recently released.

Police bodycam footage shows a “super drunk” Judge Ludington slurring his words as he denied having anything to drink.

The Michigan-based Judge’s blood alcohol level was 0.27 – more than three times the legal limit.

WZZM13 reported:

He was arrested in Emment County in October 2025, accused of driving under the influence. Ludington is facing an operating while intoxicated charge and OWI with a blood alcohol content of .17 or higher.

Michigan State Police body camera footage from his arrest shows Ludington telling an officer he didn’t know how his car had crashed, why his airbags deployed, and having difficulty following police instructions.

State police records indicated his BAC level was .27, which is above the legal limit of .08.

In Michigan, .17 is known as “super drunk.”

Former President George W. Bush nominated him to the bench in 2006. He’s been practicing law in Michigan since 1980.

Ludington is due back in court for a status conference in April.

A federal court watchdog filed a complaint against Judge Ludington.

“I want you to be serious with me. How much have you had to drink tonight?” the police officer asked Judge Ludington.

Judge Ludington threw his arms up and replied, “Seriously, I don’t think I had anything!”

The judge had difficulty understanding the sobriety tests and became argumentative when the police officer asked him to blow into the breathalyzer.

Judge Ludington cursed at the police officer as he was placed in the back of the cruiser.
