Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream to discuss his run for the US Senate. He is challenging Republican incumbent John Cornyn, who has served as a Senator since 2002.

“Early voting for the Texas primaries kicks off Tuesday. That brings us to one of the most competitive races this year. The Republican contest for US Senate, where President Trump has yet to weigh in with that coveted endorsement,” Bream said.

“One of the men hoping to land it is the current Attorney General of Texas and GOP Senate Candidate. Ken Paxton, welcome to the show,” Bream said.

“Why are you the better candidate to proceed to the general?” Bream asked.

“First, those polls are not right. Every other poll I have seen, our internal polling, the Houston Hobby Poll, which was just done, shows me either equal or better than John Cornyn,” Paxton said.

“This is a narrative that he has tried to use, but it’s not true. And I would perform at least as well, and probably better in a general election that he would,” Paxton continued.

Bream had asked Paxton about past scandals including bribery. He defended himself and explained that he has been targeted since he has been in office.

“So, how do you answer those who say, you are going to be less palatable to a lot of general election voters who have concerns about those things?” Bream asked.

“Ya, look, they have been saying that ever since I’ve been in office. You look at President Trump. He’s gone through numerous legal battles, and I have also, but been successful, just like him. When you are over the target, and you are fighting, they come after you. And you can see, every single legal battle, I’ve won,” Paxton continued.

“Your response to the issue about the funding?” Bream asked.

Paxton explained that the amount he is spending on his Senate campaign is small in comparison to incumbent Senator Cornyn, who has already spent about 70 million dollars in the primary.

“First of all, the Houston Chronicle is pretty liberal, and second of all, John Cornyn has already spent about 70 million, on his way to spending over 100 million in the primary. I spent, I will have spent about 2 and a half million by the time we are done. So, that whole theory, that whole charge doesn’t hold water,” Paxton said.

“John Cornyn is already gonna spend a 100 million dollars just in the primary, and when we get to the general, it’s gonna be another 100 million dollars,” Paxton continued.
