Although Eileen Gu was born and raised in America and is currently a student at Stanford University, the freestyle skier chose to snub her native country to compete for China at the Olympics, and New Hampshire Republican Congressional candidate Lily Tang Williams is not impressed.

Williams survived Mao’s Cultural Revolution in communist China and has little patience for out-of-touch liberals.

Williams hammered the athlete following her defense of Team USA athletes, like freestyle skier Hunter Hess, who are supposed to represent their country but choose instead to be critical on the world stage.

Hess said during an interview that wearing the American flag “brings up mixed emotions” and is “a little hard” right now.

Hess added that he’s not the “biggest fan” of much that’s happening in the U.S.

“Just because I’m wearing the flag doesn’t mean I represent everything that’s going on in the U.S. I just kind of want to do it for my friends and family, the people who supported me getting here,” Hess said.

President Trump responded to Hess’s comments, saying, “U.S. Olympic Skier, Hunter Hess, a real Loser, says he doesn’t represent his Country in the current Winter Olympics.”

“If that’s the case, he shouldn’t have tried out for the Team, and it’s too bad he’s on it. Very hard to root for someone like this,” he added.

Gu remarked that the controversy had “overshadowed the Games,” and expressed sympathy for athletes facing the public fallout for their America-bashing.

Williams wasn’t having it and shared the contrast between the CCP embracing Gu, and figure skater Alysa Liu who shares a similar background as Gu but proudly competes for the United States.

“There are 2 main groups of Chinese Americans,” Williams shared on X.

“One group loves USA & embraces American ideals; another group like Eileen Gu’s mother is pro-CCP China.”

“Alysa Liu is an American Patriot. Thanks to her father who raised her well.”

“We need (to) judge people by their values, not ethnicity.”

WFIN notes the following about Gu:

Gu, who was born in San Francisco, is the highest-paid Winter Olympic athlete in the world, making an estimated $23 million in 2025 alone in partnerships with Chinese companies, including the Bank of China, and western companies. Gu has said she represents China for her mother, who was born there.

Gu has never spoken out against China’s alleged human rights abuses, including the nation’s alleged systematic campaign of repression against Uyghurs and other predominantly Muslim ethnic minorities in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.
