Lavrov doesn’t believe Macron is serious about renewing dialogue.

Failing French President Emmanuel Macron felt it would be a nice PR moment to declare his willingness to re-engage in dialogue with his favorite bogeyman, Russia.

But does he really want to do it?

‘What if I talk to Russia? I wonder what Zelensky, Merz and Starmer think about that.’

When it comes to actually making it happen, he doesn’t do it, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.

The top diplomat harshly criticized French efforts to resuscitate dialogue between Emmanuel Macron and Vladimir Putin as miserable (Politico translates as ‘pathetic’).

This comes a mere days after Macron’s envoy traveled to Moscow for ‘high-level talks’.

Politico reported:

“’French President Emmanuel Macron about two weeks ago once again said he would somehow call [Vladimir] Putin’, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in an interview with state media outlet RT. ‘You know, this is not serious. It’s pathetic diplomacy. If you want to call and have a serious conversation, then call. Putin will always pick up the phone. He will always hear out any proposals, especially serious ones’, Lavrov said.”

Leaders from Germany, the UK, Ukraine, and France seated together during a diplomatic meeting, with national flags displayed in the background.
Merz, Starmer, Zelensky and Macron: obstacle to peace.

“Macron had said Tuesday that ‘technical talks’ were underway in the effort to reestablish dialogue with the Kremlin, and his office Wednesday said that such talks are being held transparently ‘and in consultation with President Zelenskyy and with our main European colleagues’.”
