One year ago, Fox News’ Hillary Vaughn confronted Rep. Rashida Tlaib on Jesse Watters Primetime with a question any responsible member of Congress should have been able to answer. 

Protesters at rallies Tlaib publicly supported were chanting “Death to America.” 

Vaughn asked whether Tlaib condemned the chant. Instead of answering, Tlaib said nothing. 

She walked away. 

Her silence revealed something important: the Democrat Party had no interest in confronting radical, anti-American rhetoric coming from the activists it relies on politically.

That refusal to speak clearly about extremism was not just a political stunt—it reflected a broader culture inside the Democrat Party during the final years of the Biden administration. 

Democrats minimized every concern about security, border enforcement, and the consequences of releasing unvetted migrants into American communities. 

Anyone who raised questions was dismissed as xenophobic or partisan. 

Now, under President Trump, the country is still living with the fallout of those decisions.

This week, that reality became impossible to ignore. 

One National Guard member was killed, and another shot, by an Afghan immigrant who entered the United States during the Biden-era mass-release operations. 

These were policies that moved tens of thousands of people into the country without the kind of thorough vetting national security officials had previously required. 

The families of those soldiers are now grieving because the promises made about screenings and background checks turned out to be false—and the failures are still reaching American communities today.

President Trump has already demanded a full accounting of how this individual was allowed into the country and why the warnings issued years ago were ignored. 

His administration is now dealing with the consequences of a system weakened by political decisions made long before he returned to office. 

The tragic death and shooting of the service members highlight what happens when leaders refuse to confront reality simply because acknowledging it is politically inconvenient.

The connection between Tlaib’s non-answer a year ago and this week’s tragedy is straightforward. 

When Democrats refused to condemn “Death to America” chants, they signaled that extremism inside their own base was something they didn’t have to take seriously. 

When those same officials refused to acknowledge the risks posed by weakened immigration controls, they created a national security gap that is now costing lives. 

The pattern is the same: avoid responsibility, silence criticism, and ignore danger until the consequences land on someone else.

One National Guard member is gone, and another is severely injured. 

Their families now face a future shaped by the failures of politicians who insisted there was nothing to worry about.

America remembers—and this time, the country is demanding answers.
