“That’s a Ridiculous Assertion…Shame on You for Saying That!” – Hakeem Jeffries SNAPS When CNBC Anchor Blows Up His Asinine Talking Points With an Astute Observation (VIDEO)
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) lost his temper after an actual journalist destroyed his garbage talking points during an interview this morning.
Jeffries appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” to discuss the next steps in ensuring a possible extension of the expanded Obamacare subsidies, which are scheduled to expire at the end of the year.
As TGP readers know, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer decided to shut down the government ostensibly to bully the Republicans into caving on the issue. However, this backfired when eight Democrats did the right thing and finally ended his shutdown earlier this month, with no exceptions to the subsidies.
Jeffries decided to try out his talking points on healthcare on CNBC this morning, but co-host Becky Quick did not put up with his nonsense.
After she asked why Jeffries would not compromise and offer a short-term extension while both the GOP and Democrats figured out a long-term solution, Jeffries claimed that the Democrats had already offered a compromise during the Schumer shutdown. He then started blaming Republicans for the current situation.
However, Quick noted that the shutdown is now over and wanted to know what compromise Jeffries is now offering. She added that any proposal would need bipartisan support.
Jeffries got triggered and started lecturing Quick, demanding that he be allowed to filibuster so he could provide ‘context.’ He then went back to his GOP-bashing talking points.
Quick later interjected with an astute observation: Jeffries would love to see the subsidies expire so insurance rates can skyrocket so that he can blame Republicans.
Hearing this caused Jeffries to snap completely and act defensively. Quick then rolled her eyes in response.

QUICK: If you want to get (a deal done on ACA subsidies), you’re going to need at least some Republicans to come over. Why not start with a one-year extension or even a two-year extension?
JEFFRIES: Well, Leader Schumer offered a one-year extension in the context of trying to end the Trump-Republican shutdown.
QUICK: That’s different. I’m talking about what about now…You need to do something that will have bipartisan support.
JEFFRIES No, no, no, no. You can ask me the question, I’ll provide the answer.
QUICK: Answer the question, instead of going back.
JEFFRIES: No, no. I’m providing an answer in order to provide context. Republicans have repeatedly refused to take yes for an answer!
It was a very reasonable multi-year extension that was offered…So having that context is absolutely important, regardless of what you may think.
QUICK: It’s important context to make me realize that I don’t think you want to get a deal done. I think this is something where you’d like to see the rates go higher and allow the Republicans to hang themselves with that.
JEFFRIES: That’s absolutely a ridiculous assertion. Shame on you for saying that! It’s not a partisan issue for us!
QUICK: *Rolls eyes*
