Texas Governor Greg Abbott Vows to Slap “100% Tariff” on Anyone Moving from NYC After Radical Socialist Takes the Throne in Mayoral Election

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has declared war on the incoming wave of New York City “refugees” desperate to escape the impending socialist nightmare under newly elected Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

On the eve of NYC’s mayoral election, Abbott took to X to announce he’d impose a staggering 100% tariff on anyone daring to cross state lines from the Big Apple to the Lone Star State after polls closed.

“After the polls close tomorrow night, I will impose a 100% tariff on anyone moving to Texas from NYC,” the governor wrote on X.

After the shocking victory of socialist candidate Zohran Mamdani in New York City, Abbott offered thoughts and prayers to New Yorkers.

“Join me for a moment of silence for NYC. Thoughts & prayers.”

Abbott, in a follow-up post, drew a sharp ideological line between the two states:

“Texas is now the unrivaled HQ for capitalism in the US.

We lead the country in finance sector employment & new stock exchanges.

Capitalism always prevails.

Capitalism has lifted more people out of poverty than all of the social programs in the world.

We will secure capitalism for the future of our country and deny the expansion of socialism that is creeping across the US.”

Zohran Mamdani, a 34-year-old state assemblyman and self-described democratic socialist, has been elected mayor of New York City, defeating former governor Andrew Cuomo (running as an independent) and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

His policy platform includes dystopian measures, including, rent-freezes or rent-regulation enhancements, fare-free buses, city-run grocery stores, increased taxes on high earners and corporations.

Prior to and following his victory, multiple reports and polls surfaced suggesting that a noticeable number of New Yorkers are considering or threatening to move if Mamdani takes office.

For example, a poll found that 26.5% of New Yorkers said they would consider leaving the city if he wins.

The wealthy and business communities are reported to be particularly alarmed, with suggestions that tens of thousands might exit, which could significantly impact tax revenues and real estate markets.

The Gateway Pundit previously reported that within minutes of Mamdani’s mayoral win, dozens of parents in New York City began unenrolling their kids in NYC public schools, with plans to flee the city for other locations such as Connecticut.

As New York embraces socialist leadership, Texas appears intent on cementing its place as the fortress of capitalism, and a warning beacon to the rest of the nation.
